The Punjab government is all set to launch inauguration of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on January 27 as high ups have been issued strict directions to complete the work at a fast pace, Pakistan Today has learnt. According to details, the 27km long route will have 29 bus stops between Gajumatta and Shahdara. The route on the Ferozepur road will include Dulu Khurd, Yuhanabad, Nishter Colony, Attari Sarroba, Kamahan, Chungi Amar Sidu, Ghazi Road, Walton Road, Iteffaq Hospital, Naseerabad, Model Town, Kalma Chowk, Canal, Ichra, Shama, Qartaba, Janazgah, MAO College, Civil Secretariat, District Courts, Bhaati, Azadi Chowk, Timber Market and Shahdara. The project is being completed in a record time of 11 months. It has many features which are being introduced for the first time in the metropolis including e-escalators, articulated buses, modern bus stations, e-ticketing besides many others. The escalators are being rapidly installed, while the articulated buses have reached here from Turkey in time. The designated route will allow passage of a bus after every five minutes reducing the travel time from 2 hours to 55 minutes. The fare has also been set at an affordable price with specific sitting area for females and disabled persons. The route has a state-of-the-art bus station after every kilometer. The Punjab government further plans to introduce the modern transport facility in other cities of the province after its success in Lahore. The chief minister in his address thanked the people for being patient during the completion of the project which is about to be launched soon for their convenience.
