A deadline set by Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri for the installation of a caretaker setup in consultation with the judiciary and the army expired on Thursday, but so far the government has neither expressed its willingness to accept these demands nor has it extended any invitation for talks.
Qadri threatened the government to implement electoral reforms before January 10 or else face a million-man march towards federal capital on January 14.
He expressed these views during his address on December 23, 2012 in Lahore.
The TMQ leader said he had invited all political parties, of which only the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen accepted the invitation and vowed to join the march.
Dr Qadri is scheduled to address a news conference on Friday (today) to announce his future strategy.
Earlier, Interior Minister Rehman Malik met Qadri on President Zardari’s directives and requested him to call off the long march. However, Tahirul Qadri maintained that he would hold the march unless government implements the reforms suggested by him.
