KARACHI – Local automobiles manufacturers have declared government’s decision to allow import of reconditioned cars as detrimental to the local industry, fearing that it would trigger a massive rise in unemployment. Talking to the media at the Toyota’s “Dream Car Contest” organised by Toyota Central Motors (TCM), Indus Motors Company (IMC) Director Marketing Raza Ansari said that local manufacturers had already notifies the government that import of second-hand cars would hurt vendors’ in the country.
“It is not the right time to allow import of second-hand cars as demand for automobile is less than the supply, while local manufacturers have already curtailed production”, Raza said. He stated that relaxation in import policy of used cars will not only put an additional burden on the country’s import bill, but would also eat up the precious foreign exchange of the country.
The decision is not conducive, especially at a time when the government is looking for the imposition of reformed GST.
how many people of pakistan are employed by toyota , honda and suzuki in pakistan, and how much money in the form dollars, they are extracting from pakistan and sending back to japan. i think pakistan should not be blackmailed by these companies and there should be open car import policy.
