Two more children died of measles and the toll has mounted to a horrible 257 in the Sindh province.
Two deaths occured in Ghotki and Shikarpur where the toll has reached to 27.
Many of the cities are still lacking vaccination facility.
On the other hand, a special vaccination campaign was launched in the city to prevent the outbreak of measles epidemic.
The campaign will last till January 15 during which children will be vaccinated against measles. Special camps have been set up at basic health centres and dispensaries.
Dr Imdadullah, EDO Karachi, said that during the campaign 2.1 million children will be vaccinated in the city for which 534 teams have been posted in camps while 694 teams will work in outskirt areas of the city.
Measles is caused by the measles virus; a single-stranded, negative-sense enveloped RNA virus of the genus Morbillivirus within the family Paramyxoviridae. Humans are the natural hosts of the virus; no animal reservoirs are known to exist. This highly contagious virus is spread by coughing and sneezing via close personal contact or direct contact with secretions.
