Country’s future lies in democracy: PM

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday said the future of Pakistan lies in the continuity of democratic process. He said that emergence of consensus across political forces and stakeholders on the need for continuity of the democratic system augured well for the country. The PM expressed these views while talking to Balochistan National Party (Awami) President Mir Israrullah Zehri, who called on him at the PM’s House. Senators Mir Ali Rind and Kalsoom Parveen, head of the women’s wing of the party, were also present on the occasion. The meeting discussed prevailing political situation, issues related to upcoming general elections, including law and order and developmental schemes in Balochistan. The premier said that upcoming elections would be a watershed in strengthening the democratic process. He said that Balochistan is future of Pakistan and the government was committed to its progress and prosperity. The PM assured the delegation that elections would be held on time in a free, fair and transparent manner in accordance with the provisions of the constitution. Reiterating his support for the government, Zehri expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements made by the government for holding elections in fair, free and impartial manner. He said that democracy provided people with an opportunity to resolve their differences amicably through dialogue and engagement and the system should continue.
