Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Monday said that the government was committed to holding free, fair and transparent elections and ensure a smooth transition of power. “This would be a historic achievement of the government as this would be the first civilian government to have completed its tenure in the history of Pakistan,” Ashraf told a US delegation led by Senator Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee in a meeting at Prime Minister House. The prime minister said Pakistan valued its relations with the US that was its most important economic partner. He expressed the hope that the relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the interest of the region and the world. Talking about Afghanistan and the post-US withdrawal scenario of 2014, the prime minister said Pakistan desired peace and stability in Afghanistan. He said Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Welcoming the re-election of President Barack Obama, the prime minister said it would ensure continuity in relations. Senator Karl Levin said relations between the two countries were on the right track. Levin and Senator Jack Reed said the world was looking with great interest at the coming election in Pakistan.
