11 contractual Parliament officials flouting SC’s orders

ISLAMABAD – Like many other government organizations in which blue eyed bureaucrats are enjoying extensions in service after attaining the superannuation age, as many as 11 top officials in the parliament (National Assembly, Senate) are working on contracts after retirement.
A reliable source in the parliament told Pakistan Today that as many as 7 retired officials were working on contracts in the National Assembly while in the Senate 4 top officials were on extensions after attaining the superannuation age.
An official of the National Assembly seeking not to be attributed said that the reemployment of retired government officials on contract was causing disgust among junior employees in the organization, lamenting over the fact that the government was ready to terminate such contracts despite Supreme Court’s directions.
The list of government servants working on extensions after retirement in the National Assembly includes Secretary National Assembly Secretariat Karamat Hussain Niazi, Director General Public Relations NA Secretariat Anjum Mughal, Secretary to NA Speaker Talib Javid Joint Secretary NA Legislation Latif Qureshi, Deputy Secretaries Public Accounts Committee Tariq Bhatti and Najma Siddiqi and Director Kashmir Committee Sultan Ahmad.
In the upper house of the parliament, Secretary Senate Secretariat, Raja Amin, Deputy Secretary Iftikharullah Babar and Joint Secretaries Senate Abdul Sami Khan and Hamid Hassan are holding their offices on extensions after retirement. It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has recently terminated reemployment of as many as 10 retired government officials on contract following the orders of the Supreme Court.
A source in the Establishment Division said that a joint committee of the establishment and cabinet divisions had prepared a list of all those government employees who were working on contract after retirement which would be sent to PM secretariat soon.
