Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has assured President Asif Ali Zardari of his party’s support to the government, a private TV channel reported on Thursday.
In a telephonic conversation with the president on Thursday, the MQM chief said that his party would not let democracy derail.
Hussain said that the MQM would continue its support for the Pakistan People’s Party-led government. Both the leaders agreed that election would be held on time as per the constitution.
Hussain said that there was no reality in reports about MQM parting ways with the government, to which President Zardari lauded the MQM’s role for democracy.
Qadri long march: Meanwhile in Karachi, Dr Tahirul Qadri, whose announcement to take a long march on Islamabad has sparked a debate since his Lahore rally, has once again vowed to march on the federal capital along with hundreds of thousands of his supporters.
Speaking to reporters, Qadri said that he would march on Islamabad along with his 300,000 supporters. However, he said that the huge gathering would bring about a revolution as per democratic norms.
Qadri said that he would be among his supporters during the long march instead of staying on the Motorway. He said that nobody was ready to grill those who had returned to Pakistan after 10 years.
