Ashley Giles begins his new role as England’s limited-overs head coach as England flew to India last night for the five-match one-day series. Captain Alastair Cook was hopeful that the experiment of split coaches would be a success: “We are going to have to work very hard on the relationship and communicate really well but I have no worries about it working. I think more and more sides will do it.” The series starts a week tomorrow, before which England play the first of two warm-up matches on Sunday, against India A in Delhi. Australia bowled out Sri Lanka for 294 on the first day of the third Test at Sydney to move into a dominant early position. In Mike Hussey’s final Test before retiring, Australia’s four-man pace attack did the damage, with Jackson Bird the pick with 4 for 41. Australia will begin their innings tomorrow.
