Bhagat Singh (1907-1931) was an Indian nationalist, one of the highest-profile heroes of the independence movement
He was born into a Sikh family and became involved in revolutionary activities as a teenager
Seeking revenge for the death of politician Lala Lajpat Rai, he was involved in the killing of a British police officer
He was eventually arrested and convicted for his involvement
He was hanged at Shadman square in what is now Lahore, aged 23
