With Army absent, WAPDA become a force to reckon with

WAPDA, in the absence of forces teams of Army, Navy and Air Force, has turned out to be a force to reckon with as the other participants of the 32nd National Games seemed mare minnows in the race for the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy.
On three six of the Games WAPDA outclassed rest of the teams in the medal race notching up 146 plus gold medals.
On the sixth day of the Games, WAPDA was enjoying top slot with 146 gold medals, 42 silver and 25 bronze, HEC stood second with 18 gold medals, 39 silver, and 55 bronze while Punjab grabbed the third position by getting 3 more gold medals making it 16 gold medals, 26 silver, 30 brozne. Sindh went down to fourth position with 13 gold, 19 silver and 10 bronze medals.
The wrestling event saw total domination of WAPDA which grabbed all the seven gold medals and left other teams to win just silver and bronze medals. Railways bagged second position with three silver medals and three bronze while Punjab stood third with three silver medals. In 55kg weight category, Papu of WAPDA won gold medal, M Bilal silver and M Rashid bronze while in 60kg weight category, Bashrat Ali of WAPDA secured gold medal, Abdul Wahab silver and Faisal bronze. The 66kg event saw M Sulaiman of WAPDA winning gold, Qamar Abbas of Punjab silver and Haseeb Khan of Islamabad bronze while the 74kg weight category gold went to M Asad of WAPDA, silver to M Azhar of Railways, bronze to Amir Javed of HEC. The 84kg weight category gold medal was won M Umair of WAPDA, silver by Yasir Abbas of Railways and bronze by Safi Ullah of Islamabad while 96kg gold was won by M Inam of WAPDA, Bilal Hussain of Railways and bronze by Mujeeb Ullah of KPK. Usman Majeed of WAPDA secured gold medal, Shah Zaman of Police and Ibrahim of HEC bronze.
The ju-jitsu event was held at AIMC Lahore. In 56kg men ju-jitsu fighting event, gold went to Ghulam Farid of WAPDA, silver to Khayal Muhammad of KPK and bronze to Ameer Huzaifa of Sindh. The 49kg women ju-jitsu fighting gold was won by Zoya Ranjha of WAPDA, silver by Saba Salamat of Punjab and bronze by Eman Riaz of Sindh. The duo system men gold went to Waheed ud Din and Shahzeb Nawaz of HEC, silver to Ameer Huzaifa and Hasnain Ahmed of Sindh and bronze Khayal Muhammad and Mir Khan of KPK. In 60kg weight category, WAPDA’s Rana Adnan bagged gold, HEC’s Siddique Akbar silver and KPK’s Khayal Muhammad bronze. The 66kg event gold went to WAPDA’s Javed, silver to HEC’s Ameer Shahzad and bronze to Police’s Sharjeel. The 73kg event gold was lifted by WAPDA’s M Umair, silver by HEC’s Farhan and bronze by Fata’s Gul Afridi. The 85kg gold was won by WAPDA’s Karamat, silver by Police’s Shafiq and bronze by Punjab’s Bilawal. In female ju-jitsu 48kg event, gold was clinched by WAPDA’s Zoya Ranjha, silver by KPK’s Kausar Iqbal and bronze by Sindh’s Isra Waseem. In men football event, WAPDA crushed Police to earn gold medal while Punjab won its match for the bronze medal. In taekwondo event, WAPDA won overall nine gold medals, seven silver medals and two bronze medals, Railways bagged nine gold medals, two silver and nine bronze while HEC took two gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals.
Athletics event was also dominated by WAPDA as its players clinched maximum number of gold medals.
In shooting individual event, Urooj of WAPDA scored 519 to win gold, Ghazala of HEC scored 471 for silver and Sadaf of HEC scored 377 for bronze. In the standard pistol individual event, M Abbas of WAPDA scored 537 points to claim gold while Tariq Manzoor of FRA scored 533 for silver and Zahid of WAPDA 516 for bronze. In team event, WAPDA notched up gold medal with 1,516 points while FRA won silver with 1,468 points and HEC got bronze with 1432 points.
