His mother’s fifth anniversary would always be remembered as his coming of age; completing the transition from youth to manhood. Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday made his debut in the country’s politics by making an emotional, and at times charged, speech in Garhi Khuda Buksh, a few yards away from the grave of his mother, former PM Benazir Bhutto. His speech was of extreme importance as it was the first time the PPP chairman orated in national language, Urdu, connecting with millions of Pakistanis, especially PPP workers, alien to English language, which Bilawal is fluent in. Addressing a massive public gathering, Bilawal said he was standing among martyrs and “my grandfather and my mother are with me today”.
“Bhutto is not a name, it’s a mission,” he said. Bilawal said that blood of Benazir was running in his veins and vowed that the PPP would never allow any dictator or terrorists to snatch rights of the people or terrorise them. But he said politics was the name of love, not hatred.
“Why are people afraid when a democratically elected president enters the Presidency?” he questioned, adding why did nobody see dictators like General Zia and General Musharraf. Praising his father, Bilawal said the country would surely have an enlightened future “under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari”. He said the party had laid foundations of a system to provide employment to every youth‚ educate every child and ensure best possible medical care for every citizen. “The PPP brought democracy to this country and it is fully committed to defend it. Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto laid down their lives for the rights of the people and the party would never deviate from their mission, come what may.” The PPP chairman said parliament was sovereign today and the power lay with the people. Bilawal said the Benazir Income Support Programme was fulfilling the needs of the poor regarding education.

  1. “Bhutto” unfortunately was not his name…his father adopted the name after realizing the benefits attached to the legacy. And while the real Bhuttos might feel a bit depressed by this usurpation they for the time being are content on letting a Zardari use their family name for the fame and riches.

He is just a show-boy, nothing else

    • @ Moazzam Salim – people like you should move forward from this stance, its no more worthy for the anti-bhutto element to create crack in the family or PPP for that matter – the Party is intact and will remain so under Bilawal Bhutto. The more people like you criticise Bilawal – the more he gets stronger and bigger.

      • It is no stance just a fact. The last I checked his father is a gentleman named Zardari. If you want to change that then I suggest you should rewrite the history and somehow wed Benazir in the Bhutto family. Otherwise please straighten your record and do not try to change paternity of your leader. You do have him as your Chairman so why tell lies about his paternity?

  8. Welcome Bilawal to the politics – surely the youth of today have an important task ahead and Mr.Bilawal is a true representation of youth of this country – he has a long path to cover and no doubt Bilawal is ready to give everything he has – though he has already given his mother's blood for this country, he too will not hesitate to give any sacrifice if time come – he has proved "HE IS NOT AFRAID OF ANYTHING – COME WHAT MAY".

Bilawal we are with you as we always were with your mother.

  9. Aslam o Alekum to all my friends. I seen that Mr.Niazami, was setting between the President and Ex-Prime Minister. I think it is not a good thing for any editor of any news papers. It is probably shown his affiliation with the present govt. Its my own thinking the journalist must be impartial and they have to focuss ongoing issues and have to highlited the problems of the peoples. But i got surprised when i seen that why Mr. Niazi was sitting among the kings maker who are seems to be responsible of our problems, like electricity, gas, unemployment, poverty, inflation, increased in the foreign debt, law & order, increasing the level of corruption, ethnic problems and such other problems which is leading to disaster of our economy.
Plz. Niazami sb, the whole nation is looking into the media personal and the judiciary. Plz think about it.

    • A good journalist always has good PR with the news makers. I have seen the editor of Pakistan Today sitting with politicians of opposition parties as well.

  10. Mr.Bilawal Bhuttoo is a gentleman, we are appreciating and welcoming him into entering in the politics. lets hope for a better future of our homeland.

  11. Pakistan Today king isn't appropriate ?he belongs to democratic party & will be elected by people democratically

  12. It will never happend again people are not blind they can trust on PPP once again by a lieng speech of bilawal

  13. "Bhutto" unfortunately was not his name…his father adopted the name after realizing the benefits attached to the legacy. 14. What does he have which any other 25 year old ordinary Pakistani does not have? This is bullshitt his picture is hanged in president house at the place of Jinnah. BB, Bhutto, Zardari… No one deserve to be there with Jinnah.
    And now another drama. :/

  15. King? Are you actually serious? Tell me 'nation' how much were you bribed on order to write such an article?

  16. Not really worth listening or making comment on this speech. It was the wast of time. Lets listen to parties that are democratic and will bring the change not these mafia and familiy parties

  17. Hello Guys…I suggest all of you to add ‘’Bhutto’’ with your names. Your future might be secure. I am Irfan Azeem Bhutto from today onward.

  18. Kid, your dad wasnt "democratically elected", he was financially selected. Show me 1 person who voted for Zardari in the assembly without dollar bills being handed to him.

  19. Zerdari or Bhutto? to retain power & fool Pakistanis Asif Zerdari will do anything; even change his son's family name! wake up Pakistanis, think again what kind of men are willing to change their children's family name and what kind of young man Bilawal is that he has accepted this change willingly? Can you trust Pakistan's future in the hands of such people?

  20. " BHUTTO IS A MISSION". BILAWAL, KNOWS BHUTTO IS NO MORE A FAMILY NAME IT IS A MISSION. VERY VERY DEEP STATEMENT. I REMEMBER PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN WILL CALL FOR, " JEEWAY BHUTTO, BHUTTO JEEWAY ". IT MEANT TO THE PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN THEIR SURVIVAL AT THE TIME WHEN THIS SLOGAN WAS POPULAR. BUT LATER THE PARTY SIDE TRACKED A BIT DUE TO POLITICAL OBSTACLES. HOPEFULLY BILAWAL BHUTTO WILL BRING BACK THAT LOST GLORY BY CONNECTING WITH MASSES AND DELIVER THE MESSAGE OF HIS CHARISMATIC GRAND FATHER AND DAUGHTER OF THE EAST, HIS MOTHER. TIMING CHOSE BY THE PARTY AND HIS FATHER , PRESIDENT ASIF ZARDARI CAN NOT BE BETTER. BB CAN PROVE TO BE A TRIUMPH CARD TO WIN.

  21. THIS IS CHEAP JOURNALISM. KING! R U KIDDING ME? KING OF WHAT? BEGGARS? PAKISTAN TODAY IS THE STUPIDEST NEWSPAPER EVER!

  22. Bilawal Zardari is the continuing legacy of making the People of Pakistan fool by all means and sell their future in the hands of enemies of Pakistan. But the late Peer Sahib Pagaroo once predicted that " Bilawal would be Muslim League worker", when Bilawal born 25 years ago; I think its quite possible when the future unfolds after next election.

  23. It will be unfortunate 4 pakitan, if PPP comes in power again. The chapter of corrupt govt of PPP must close.
