LAHORE – Accountability should be ensured to eradicate corruption in the police department so that speedy justice could be provided to the public and the force’s image improved, Punjab Police Inspector General Javed Iqbal said on Sunday during a briefing by Multan Regional Police Officer Mubarak Ali Athar.
The IGP stressed upon the need for revolutionary measures for a change in “thana culture”. There is a dire need of establishing friendly terms between police and the public, which could boost peoples’ confidence and enable them to have a sense of security, Iqbal said. He said that there should be no hindrance in lodging FIRs and warned those officers who use negative tactics in lodging complaints.
Lower number of registered cases at a police station or a district did not indicate a good law and order situation, Iqbal said expressing his satisfaction on overall performance of Multan Police. He also appreciated the steps being taken by the RPO for establishing better harmony among various religious sects.
