The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage, commonly known as Lok Virsa, celebrated the 136th birth anniversary of the founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah with great fervour and festivity here at Shakarparian.
Lok Virsa also organised special activities to mark the occasion of Christmas.
Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology (Heritage Museum) and Pakistan Monument Museum also remained open for the general public from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. In order to encourage maximum participation, a special 50% rebate on the entry ticket for local adults was given by Lok Virsa management for both the museums.
In its on-going efforts, the Lok Virsa management had taken steps to involve all citizens of Pakistan including the minorities. Recently, the institute also joined hands with the Christian community in their Chirstmas celebrations so as to give them a platform to celebrate their happiness at the national level through various cultural activities.
On the occasion, a Christmas tree was erected in front of the museum, while a cake cutting ceremony took place at the institute.
A large number of Christians, in particular children, attended the colourful celebrations. Later, Santa Claus distributed sweets among the children. A group of drummers (dholis) attired in colourful costumes also performed at the venue and entertained visitors through their beautiful performances.
Talking to media, Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid said, “Lok Virsa always celebrates all national days including Quaid-i-Azam Day, and tries to inculcate awareness among people, in particular youth, about the teachings and contributions of our great leader for creating Pakistan. In this regard, we have established a full fledged display at Heritage Museum named as ‘Quaid Living Room’ presenting historical moments of 1947 when Pakistan came into being. We have also endured special focus on the sacrifices and contributions of our great leaders at the Pakistan Monument Museum, which is adjacent to National Monument Museum”.
