Tanzim-ul-Ihsan Karachi’s Naib Mufti Abdul Razzaque on Monday emphasised the need for healthy maintaining relationships with other human beings as per the commandments of Quran and Sunnah. He was commenting on a report issued by Aurat Foundation in which 2,713 different cases of gender based violence were registered during 2012. He registered his sadness over the fact that victims of sexual violence, as reported by Aurat Foundation were women and adolescent girls. He said that “Islam strictly forbids violence against women and at many places in the Holy Quran strict consequences have been attributed to such disrespect.” The Mufti elaborated upon the duty of men to fulfil all obligations towards their wives, mothers, daughters and sisters. He concluded that “Islam forbids all forms of violence and cruelty. We, as a society, can achieve salvation if we begin to strictly abide by the Quranic injunctions in its truest spirit”.
