CM holds parleys with VCs over financial issues

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah presided a meeting of vice chancellors of universities of Sindh at CM House and discussed certain issues and financial problems.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to Sindh Governor Prof Noshad Ahmed Shaikh, Karachi University VC Prof Dr Muhammad Qaisar, Sindh University VC Dr Nazir A Mughal, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Lyari VC Dr Rasheed Ahmed Shah, Sindh Madarssat-ul-Islam University VC Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Sindh Agriculture University VC Prof RB Mirbahar, Shah Abdul Latif University VC Dr Parveen Shah, Benazir Bhutto University, Benazirabad, VC Prof Arshad Saleem, Principal Secretary to CM Muhammad Siddique Memon, Provincial Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, ACS(P&D) Malik Israr, ACS (Finance) Arif Ahmed Khan, Secretary Inter-provincial Coordination Kaleem Lashari, Secretary Education Mukhtiar Ahmed Soomro, Deputy Secretary Governor House Moinuddin Siddiqui and others.
The vice chancellors highlighted problems with reference to salary component of staff, funds for development projects, construction of departments and faculties and allocation for research in various sectors. Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that according to decision of CCI, the subjects transferred to provinces are including higher education, and universities of respective provinces. He said in the first phase, the universities having some problems have been invited while the remaining universities will be invited in second phase.
He said furtherance and promotion of education is objective of present elected government, while efforts are being made to pay full attention towards higher education.
He added that the government of Sindh had started establishing “Sindh Higher Education Commission” so as to resolve the problems of universities and centers of excellence engaged in promotion of knowledge, latest technologies and educational standard.
He said Punjab had already formed the HEC and Sindh province had also initiated in right direction. Qaim Ali Shah added that in spite of limitations; the needs of higher educational institution particularly the universities will be fulfilled. He also constituted a committee headed by minister finance to ascertain the demands, needs and requirements of universities.
