National Highways (NH) and Motorway Police (MP) Inspector General Zafar Abbas Lak has directed officials to take necessary measures for the safety and security of road users so commuters could feel secure while travelling on roads.
Speaking at the Police Darbar ceremony held in Gujranwala, he said the MP had gained a good name due to their friendly and helpful culture and good behaviour. He said in case of an accident, speedy and safe measures needed to be taken to save the lives of people and ensure free flow of traffic on roads. No negligence would be tolerated in this regard as this could lead to an accident and loss of life, he added.
He said more than 16,000 people died in road accidents each year but no proper institutes had been established for professional drivers. Such institutes must be established so lives could be saved, he added. He said the MP would establish state of the art professional heavy driving schools in Swabi, Sargodha, Multan, Sukkar and Karachi.
Lak said violations should be checked strictly to control accidents. It was the MP’s responsibility to provide an accident-free environment to the public on highways and motorways. He said the use of seat belts and lane discipline must be ensured in all conditions.
