Bangladesh have agreed in principle to tour Pakistan early next year and thereby become the first Test playing team to visit the country since attack Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009.
“We have in principle agreed to tour Pakistan. It’s a commitment made by former BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) president Mustafa Kamal. We are keeping his word, “ Enayet Husain Siraj, the board’s head of cricket operations, told AFP.
He also stated that the tour will also be cleared only after satisfying all security considerations. “The tour is subject to security clearance, “ he added.
Pakistan have not hosted any team ever since gunmen attacked and shot some Sri Lankan cricketers during the island nations’ tour of Pakistan in 2009. Bangladesh had accepted an invitation from Pakistan to participate in a short ODI bilateral series last April but the series was blocked by the Dhaka High Court on security issues. Pakistan had successfully hosted a couple of unofficial T20s between the Pakistan XI and an All Star XI comprising of players from Sri Lanka, West Indies, South Africa and Afghanistan in October, 2012.
