Raise in gas tariff from Jan 1 proposed

The Ministry of Petroleum has prepared a proposal to increase gas tariff from January 1.
Suggestions include increasing the tariff in all three slabs for residential gas consumers and one-slab for religious and educational institutions.
A Rs 6.14 per 100 units, Rs 12.28 per 300 units and a new tariff of Rs 30.69 for residential consumers using over 300 units have been suggested.
It has been suggested that the three slabs for mosques, churches, hostel and universities be done away with and replaced with a fixed tariff of Rs 530.29.
The tariff for commercial consumers has been suggested to be increased from Rs 438 to Rs 531.39.
The new tariff for industrial units is suggested to be increased by Rs 39.46 to Rs 448.14.
An increase of Rs 59 has been suggested for the cement sector, Rs 9.9 for fertilizer and Rs 49 mmbtu for power plants.
The new gas tariff would be effective from January 1 if approved.
