PM affirms commitment for peace, democracy and human rights

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has affirmed commitment to create an environment conducive to peace‚ democracy and human rights in the country.
Addressing a function in connection with Universal Human Rights day here on Monday‚ he said the constitution of Pakistan guarantees fundamental rights to its citizens. Human rights are an essential component of public policy of this government which has put in place mechanism for their advancement, he said.
“The road to durable peace is paved by representatives and effective democratic institutions. Our tenure is a story of struggle for democracy‚ nurturing of institutions‚ upholding of rights of marginalized sections of the society and fight against non state elements who threatens the lives and property of our citizens”, he said.
The prime minister said “we are fighting a war against terrorism to preserve the lives‚ honor‚ properties and the future of our children. We will never accept the narrow minded and bigoted agenda of extremists.”
He said the way the whole nation came together in support of Malala Yousafzai reflected the national consensus and the will of the nation to protect its values‚ culture and the way of life.
This antidote against extremists mindset provides continuity and stability to democratic institutions, he said.
PM said the PPP government is committed to carry forward the legacy of its Shaheed leader Benazir Bhutto for empowerment and emancipation of women.
“This government has made progressive legislations for the protection of rights of women‚ children‚ minorities and marginalized sections of the society. We have made amendments to FCR to hold the rule of law in FATA and tribal areas”, he said.
He said minorities are an integral part of Pakistani society and have played an important role in the development of the country.
“The government has increased the number of seats for minorities in the Senate besides fixing a quota in the civil services. The government is considering promulgation of several laws for minorities. These include the Christian marriage and divorce bills and Hindu marriage and divorce bills‚ which will brought them at par with the Muslims of the country”, he said.
He said the government is considering the appointment of human rights defenders under the human rights ministry.

  1. This P.M (Raja Rental) also must make a committment to return all the money which he pludered and looted. He should also make a committment to have the money looted by Zaradri(ex Mr. 10% now Mr.100%) returned to people of Pakistan. He should also make committment to book Gilani and family for defrauding people of Pakistan for more than four years. He should take immediate step to close down the drug business run by Don Gilani of Multan Drig Cartel.
