Gujranwala traffic chief warns encroachers of operation cleanup

GUJRANWALA – Gujranwala Chief Traffic Officer Makhdoom Qaisar Bashir has warned encroachers to remove encroachments in a week otherwise an operation cleanup will have to be launched.
Addressing a meeting of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), he said an educational wing had been established for traffic awareness, adding a traffic campaign would be started in the city soon. The GCCI president chaired the meeting while senior members and traffic officials were also present there. The CTO said line and lane system was being observed strictly on GT Road to control the traffic and extra force had already been posted between Gondlanwala Chowk to the Sheranwala Park.
He further said unnecessary U-turns would be blocked and public transport would be strictly directed to pick from and drop passengers at the approved bus stops only. GCCI President Sarwat Ikram expressed concern over non-implementation of law, traffic jams and encroachments in the city. He urged the authorities concerned to make a traffic planning and implement the traffic laws strictly in the city.
FWO URGED TO COMPLETE PROJECTS WITHIN TIMEFRAME: Punjab Communication and Works (C & W) Secretary Azam Suleman has urged the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to complete its all projects within the given timeframe. He directed the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) to remove all electric poles till the first week of March and directed the highways superintendent to arrange a jointly meeting of FWO and the GEPCO.
He was presiding over a meeting at the commissioner’s office in which commissioner, district coordination officers (DCOs) of Gujranwala and Sialkot and heads of FWO, GEPCO, highways and forest departments participated. Azam Suleman directed the Gujranwala DCO to monitor all the proceedings in this regard and urged the FWO to chalk out a schedule for their projects.
FWO Project Director Colonel Sibte Hassan Rana told the provincial secretary about the delay in payments which had been affecting progress at the projects. The secretary took serious notice of the delay and directed the chief engineer to sort out the problem so that unnecessary delay could be avoided. Commissioner Saeed Iqbal Wahla briefed the participants that all the encroachments between Nandipur and Daska had already been removed and asked the Sialkot DCO to remove all encroachments by using heavy machinery in Daska and Sialkot.
