ISLAMABAD – In the wake of former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s ouster from the federal cabinet, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit has also been replaced.
Tehmina Janjua, a director general in the Foreign Ministry, has been appointed the new spokesperson for the Foreign Office. Basit has been appointed additional secretary for European Affairs.
However, a source in the Foreign Office denied any link between Basit’s replacement and the former FM’s ouster from the cabinet. He said Basit was replaced on his own desire, as he was tired of the continuous work.
“Basit will be appointed ambassador to any foreign country in a month or two as his appointment abroad as an envoy is due since November 2010 when a decision was made in principle in this regard,” the source said.
