The newly-elected office-bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) led by its President Israrul Haq Mian, called on Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry here on Thursday .
Welcoming the newly-elected SCBA cabinet, the CJ said that there was close nexus between the Bench and the Bar.
Both the bar and the bench were an integral part of the same system and it is a duty of the Bench to dispense justice in accordance with the law and Constitution without fear and favour while it is the duty of the bar to assist the bench in the dispensation of justice to public at large, he added.
Therefore, he added, it was incumbent upon the two to address the legal needs of people by deciding their cases expeditiously.
“For the cause of administration of justice, the role of bar is very crucial and without the cooperation of bar, the goal of administration of justice cannot be fulfilled,” the CJ said.
“A strong bar is sine qua non for strong and independent judiciary. We desire that in our country independent judiciary must work and dispense justice in accordance with law and constitution,” he added.
The meeting was a working session between the bench and the
bar to discuss the issues faced by the administration of justice, in particular the procedure followed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan with a view to remove hiccups in the process of free and fair dispensation of justice to the litigant public.
The purpose was to expedite the judicial process so the cases and disputes were quickly decided, grievances redressed and relief granted to the deserving party.
The members of the SCBA thanked the CJ for providing an opportunity to discuss these matters. The CJ reassured them that both the bar and the bench were geared towards one and only one goal and that was to provide easy, quick and substantial justice to the people of Pakistan. He reiterated that all-out efforts were being made to dispose of cases in an appropriate manner to the satisfaction of litigant parties.
