Metrological Department Director Muhammad Hanif said that this year winter would be short but intense.
Talking to a private news channel, Hanif said that winter rains would start in the first week of January across the country. He said that cold waves would prevail in upper areas of the country including Punjab and Sindh.
He said that the intensity of winter would increase in December and grip most parts of the country.
Answering a question, he said that rain spells would be normal this winter, while there would be more snowfall than usual.
He said that snowfall had already disturbed the lives of people in Gilgit-Baltistan, while streams had been frozen in Diamir. He said that temperatures would drop dramatically during December in Punjab and KP.
However, the current spell of fog would continue in upper Sindh and KP, he said, and winter would start in the last week of December in Karachi.
