ISLAMABAD – Exercising powers conferred on him by clause (1) of Article 54 of the constitution, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned a session of the National Assembly (NA) on February 21. On top of the agenda would be the Raymond Davis issue and the US intervention in Pakistan’s internal affairs through the leverage of the Kerry Lugar law.
A source in the NA’s Secretariat informed Pakistan Today that around 16 bills, ready for passage, were also part of the agenda to be taken up by the business advisory committee. “Moreover, PML-Q legislators Marvi Memon, Riaz Pirzada, Attiya Inayatullah and others have submitted adjournment motions on financial crunch, debt payments and delay of salaries to government employees which may also be taken up,” said the source.
The source said a calling attention notice to debate the collaboration agreement by the Pakistan International Airline (PIA) with a Turkish airline was also on agenda. “Moreover, some MNAs from the PML-Q, the MQM and the PML-N have submitted adjournment motions seeking a debate on the deteriorating law and order situation in across country, especially in Karachi, which may also be taken up during the session,” said the source.
