Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan’s T20 captain, has expressed that his side is geared up to take on India in the forthcoming limited-over series and believes that Saeed Ajmal is going to play a huge role in the crucial battle. The two countries are going to play a bilateral series after a gap of almost five years, as their sporting relations were halted in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.
The Green Shirts will travel to the neighbouring country in December for a limited-over series which includes three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a couple of T20 Internationals. Mahendra Singh Dhoni and company are always considered to be a formidable unit at home and will start as favourites against the Men in Green. Hafeez however, is optimistic about his side’s chances on the tour and said that the boys are eager to deliver the goods against the arch-rivals. The cricketer from Sargodha feels that Ajmal, one of the world’s premier spinners, will be Pakistan’s key weapon in the competition.
“Our team is balanced and morale is high. We aim to win the series against India,” said the country’s T20 captain. “Saeed Ajmal is our main wicket-taker. We have high expectations from him and he has been delivering.” The all-rounder, who has been representing Faisalabad Wolves in Pakistan’s domestic cricket over the years, is all set to play for Lahore Lions in the upcoming T20 tournament, which begins from December 1, 2012, at Lahore. The Lions include a number of other international stars, led by the legendary Pakistan batsman, Mohammad Yousuf.
While commenting about Shahid Afridi’s poor run of form in recent times, the T20 captain said that Boom Boom has been a genuine match-winner for the country over the years and he will return to form very soon. Hafeez further claimed that there is no grouping within the national team. “Shahid Afridi is a very experienced player and his dip in form in temporary. There is no rift in the team, all rumours regarding it are false. Misbah & I are good friends & discuss the team’s performance now & then,” he added.

  1. Consider Pakistan chances reduced by 50% with Hafeez as captain. Who made him captain has not learnt his lessons or is too stupid to realise his mistake.
