Over 60 civil society representatives gathered on Thursday to discuss and formulate collective feedback on two reports on education.
These reports stated that an estimated 231 billion additional rupees were required during the next five years, from pre-primary to secondary level education, to implement Article-25A which dealt with the Right to Education (RTE) bill in Pakistan.
The first paper was titled, “Mapping the Scope of Work, Roles and Responsibilities and Capacities and Resources required for Implementation of Article 25-A”, while the other was titled, “Alternative Financing Framework and Model for Provinces and Districts in lieu of RTE Implementation”.
Both papers produced by Pakistan Coalition for Education, proposed a framework of how to implement RTE in Pakistan. The strategies formulated in the document were a result of comprehensive discussions held with various stakeholders, executives, civil society and education experts.
Arif Majeed, the author, gave a detailed briefing of both papers. Ms Sultana stated that access to education was as important as the quality of education.
