Remarks made by a judge of the Supreme Court regarding delimitation of constituencies in Karachi are “absolutely unconstitutional, autocratic and biased”, MQM chief Altaf Hussain said late on Thursday. According to DawnNews, he said giving mandate to any political party was a public prerogative and not of courts.
Speaking MQM lawmakers over telephone from London, Altaf said, “A bench of the apex court doesn’t have the right to suggest that constituencies should be delimited to avoid political polarization.” “This is an open affront of the public mandate given to the MQM and a conspiracy to break this mandate,” he added.
The MQM chief demanded the federation, the government, President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other “unbiased” judges of the SC take immediate notice of the issue, adding that “legal action should be taken against the judge who issued such remarks”. Meanwhile, Senator Mustafa Kamal declared the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the rearrangement of constituencies in Karachi illegal. Talking to a private TV channel, Kamal demanded the system be adopted for the entire country, especially Lahore, where constituencies dominated by the PML-N, to make it indiscriminate.
