KARACHI – As there are hardly any car parking spaces in the densely populated city of Karachi, some opportunists have started making money by charging parking fee in different areas of the metropolis. Despite the fact that there is a ban on charging parking fee at open spaces in the city, the opportunists manage to extract between Rs 20 to 30 per vehicle from the public.
This business is under way in various areas of the city including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Nursery, PECHS and Saddar, but the authorities concerned have not taken notice of this issue so far. Interestingly, these law-breakers also hand over receipts for charging fee. City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Executive District Officer (Local Taxes) Jamil Ahmed recently appealed to the citizens that they should pay a fee of Rs 10 per car and Rs 5 per motorcycle at designated places only and avoid giving money at other venues.
Chairing a departmental meeting, he also directed officers to curb the business of illegal charged parking.
