Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said that Pakistan is facing serious challenges because the federal government is failing badly on all internal and external fronts.
Talking to assembly members of various districts, he said that anti-state elements were conspiring to disturb the law and order of the country. He said that elimination of extremism was necessary for national development and prosperity. Furthermore, the chief minister said that it was unfortunate that the murderers of Muslims were Muslims themselves.
He further said that ethnic, linguistic and sectarian disputes had pushed the country to a depressing situation.
Shahbaz stressed upon the clerics and other religious scholars to play their role in maintaining an atmosphere of peace and tranquility in the society.
Moreover, the chief minister said that Pakistan was passing through the most critical phase of its history and its enemies were bent upon destabilising the country. He said that because of this critical period of Pakistan’s history, it is even more important to maintain peace and harmony during the month of Muharram. He stressed that it was imperative to solve the differences of ideology between various sects of Islam for the overall peace and stability of the country.
He added that all necessary measures had been taken by the Punjab government for the protection of life and property of people in the month of Muharram, especially on Youm e Ashur. He added that all assembly leaders and senior officials should play a proactive role to maintain law and order in Punjab.
