Senate’s Standing-Committee for Interior Affairs has delayed the approval of Motor-Vehicle Amendment Bill 2012, while the Interior Ministry has sought powers from the parliament for changes in rules of Islamabad traffic police.
Sources said the Senate’s standing- has rejected the request.
The committee said they had no reservations on the rules formulated by Islamabad traffic police however it refused to transfer powers of the Parliament to the Interior Ministry.
A meeting of Senate Standing Committee was held in the Parliament House presided by its Chairman, Senator Talha Mehmood Aryan. Senator Gul Muhammad, Pervez Rasheed, Najma Hameed, Fateh Muhammad and others participated in the meeting.
When questioned by members of the Standing Committee, the officials of Interior Ministry said that according to the new rules, the fines charged by Islamabad traffic police could also be changed.
Senator Talha Mehmood said if they showed reservations on the bill, it would be returned to the National Assembly, but they want to adopt a moderate path in this regard.
Meanwhile, members of the Senate’s Standing-Committee for interior affairs showed grave concerns for the absence of Minister for Interior and Secretary Interior affairs and stated that if they were so busy they could change the rules of business.
