The first ever 3- day conference on ‘Women’s Model United Nations, Empowering Women’ concluded at the Quaid-e-Azam Auditorium of International Islamic University, Faisal Masjid Campus Islamabad.
The first lady from the embassy of Saudi Arabia in Pakistan, Aljourah Abdullah A Alarifi, was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony, whereas High Commissioner of Australia in Islamabad Mr Peter Heyward, IIUI Dean faculty of Management sciences Dr Bashir Khan, Director female campus Dr Zaitoon Begum, Chairperson Tasneem Fatima, the female faculty of IIUI Management Sciences, representatives of Islamabad United Nations Secretariat, diplomatic staff and a large number of students were present at the occasion. Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr Bashir said that the students had discussed important issues in discussion panels such as education, peace, Kashmir and Afghanistan. Dr Bashir was of the view that Muslims should have a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council and they should work to establish their own United Nations. Tasneem said that the basic objective of the conference was to broaden horizons of international understanding among students to make the youth ready to identify real issues people faced in different countries and to propose potential solutions. She said that the event had made the youth more aware and equipped with the ability to propose solutions. She further added that they did not need to accept planned agenda propagated by others and were ready to raise a voice for the well being of humanity. The theme of WMUN 2012 was to empower women, regardless of whether they belonged to rural, tribal or interior provinces.
