A commission of retired judges constituted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) summoned the chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA) regarding alleged mismanagement in the civic body and directed him to present relevant records on November 26.
Secretary Commission Pervez Qadir Memon said on Monday that the commission would start its probe by examining records of Monal Restaurant from November 26 and a notice to the chairman had also been issued in this regard.
Headed by Justice (r) Sardar Raza Khan, with retired session’s judges Sakhi Mohammad Kahut and Baqir Ali Rana as its members, the commission had been directed to compile a report on alleged irregularities in CDA within three months.
Memon said that the commission had conducted its first meeting and formed a procedure of its proceedings. He said that the commission would examine the reasons for lack of transparency in CDA projects, disputes over acquisition of land and the compensation paid in this regard, survey built-up properties on acquired land, matters of cooperative societies, irregularities in sale of commercial and residential plots and allotment of plots reserved for public amenities to influential people, massive and irregular recruitment, and absorption of deputationists in CDA under political pressure.
He said that the commission would also examine a number of multi-billion projects including the construction of IJP Road, Pak Tower allotment of plots for Centarus building and the allotment of a plot to a private firm BNP for constructing a five star hotel complex near the Convention Centre.
After finishing the exercise, the commission would make recommendations with regard to enforcing a ‘rules based culture’ in CDA.
