A resolution was submitted to the Punjab Assembly on Monday against the Israeli aggression on Gaza city which has claimed 88 lives, including women and children, in five days of bombardment by warplanes. Parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Zaheer ud Din submitted a condemnatory resolution to the assembly secretariat. Overnight air strikes in densely populated area in Gaza Strip have leveled several houses, killing ten members of a single family.
Health officials have said 88 Palestinians have been killed in the five-day onslaught and 720 wounded. Three Israeli civilians have died from Palestinian rocket fire. On Friday, Egyptian President Muhamed Morsi telephoned Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to discuss the situation in Gaza. Morsi requested the prime minister for Pakistan’s support when the Palestine issue is raised at international forums specially the United Nations Security Council. The PM said Pakistan strongly condemns Israeli air attacks in Gaza that have targeted not only the Hamas leadership but also innocent civilians. “Pakistan considers the Israeli action as a grave violation of international law and all humanitarian norms,” he said.
Pakistan has urged the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and leading Muslim countries to demonstrate a ‘serious reaction’ in pressing Israel against the air strikes.
The resolution would be presented in next session of the house and is likely to be adopted unanimously.
