Special committee to probe six students’ murder

The inspector general (IG) police on Sunday formed a committee to investigate the murder of six seminary students gunned down in a hotel on Saturday in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area.
In Saturday’s deadliest episode, six students of a seminary were gunned down in an armed attack on a roadside tea shop in Block-2 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Police said students of Madressah Ahsan-ul-Uloom — all in their early 20s — were targeted by at least four men riding two motorbikes. Seven other students suffered injuries.
The ongoing violence claimed 25 lives over the past 24 hours, with police and Ranger carrying out search operations in tense parts of the metropolis, a bid so far proved unsuccessful in curbing drive-by attacks and targeted killings.
They victims were identified as Mohibullah, Shams-ur-Rehman, Abdul Ghaffar, Khalid, Adnan, Abdul Khaliq and the tea stall worker, Imran. Bodies of victims were sent to their natives towns, with enhanced patrolling and snap-checking in the area.
Officials said an investigation body, comprising senior officers, has been constituted by IG police to probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, police on Sunday claimed to have arrested at least nine alleged criminal from different area of Karachi.
Officials said nine suspected criminals and three proclaimed offenders were nabbed during a search operation in New Karachi area. Arms, snatched bikes and mobile phones were recovered from their possession.
