LAHORE – Sajjad Tafu, one of the brightest talent in the country’s music industry, has launched his album Sufi Saga. The album is a solo effort of the classical guitarist, who is the son of renowned musician Ustad Tafu Khan, a tabla maestro of his own class.
The collection, available both in cassette and CD, contains 10 items of Sufi poetry, which have been melodiously presented by the younger Tafu through instruments. Talking to Pakistan Today, Sajjad said his effort was aimed at blending the Sufi tradition with guitar while keeping in mind the basics of the subcontinent’s rich musical history and melody.
Sajjad said he had also focused on semi classical Rag Darbari, as it was necessary to blend modernity with tradition so that more and more audience could be attracted. He said the West was taking keen interest in eastern art and culture and his album would prove to be an “acknowledgeable piece” in this domain.
He rued the fact that the local talent was neither being guided properly nor patronised while those with linkages were occupying the market. Sufi Saga has been released by DJ.
