Unabated violence continued to claim innocent lives as two more people were gunned down in the city raising the 24-hour death toll to 16. According to details, unidentified armed assailants opened fire at two persons in Nishan-e-Haider Chowk of Orangi Town injuring them severely and fled the scene. The injured identified as Jahangir and Raza Jan were rushed to Jinnah Hospital but both succumbed to wounds on the way.
The twin murders spawned immense tension around the area followed by firing incident near ICI Bridge where a man was injured. Faraz Haider, who sustained injuries in a firing incident near Dakkhana Chowk area of Liaquatabad a day earlier, succumbed to his wounds at hospital.
Tension continued in several areas including Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gulbahar, Sohrab Goth and Ancholi on second day over triple killings. The funeral prayers of deceased Wasim Haider, Faraz Haider and Qasim Ali were offered at ancestral graveyard. Firing incidents continued in different parts of the Karachi during which 12 persons were reported injured. Meanwhile, police and Rangers conducted raids and launched search operation during which several criminals were held and arms recovered from their possession.
The citizens have expressed grave concerns over renewed spell of target killing which has forced them to move to other cities. They also criticized the law enforcement agencies, provincial and federal governments for failure to give protection to public lives and property.
Meanwhile, infuriated people on Wednesday set three vehicles on fire in Sakhi Hassan area as sectarian tension gripped the city following Tuesday’s firing incidents. Officials said a truck was torched near Haroon shopping center in Shadman area, a bus near Five Star Chowrangi and a car in North Nazimabad soon after funerals of two people, who were killed in firing on Tuesday, were offered in city’s locality. Some enraged youths also pelted public vehicles with stones as police and Rangers contingents arrived in the area to control the situation. Earlier, hundreds of people in Buffer Zone area attended funeral prayer of three persons who were killed on Tuesday when armed men opened fire on funerals of Allama Agha Aftab Haider Jaffari. He was shot dead along with two associated in Sadar area on Tuesday morning. His death triggered protests and fueled sectarian tension in the city.
Police arrest 11 dacoits: Khairpur police have arrested 11 notorious dacoits, nine proclaimed offenders and 46 absconders during the month of October. SSP Khairpur Irfan Mukhtiar told media on Wednesday that police raided various places and recovered five KK, 4 shot guns, one rifle, 15 pistols, seven cartridges, 87 rounds, four kilogram and 260 grams of chars and 21 bottles of alcohol during the month.
Bid of terrorism foiled, 3 smugglers arrested: Police foiled a bid of terrorism in the holy month of Muharram as security agencies arrested three weapon smugglers and recovered huge cache of weapons.
DIG East Shahid Hayat Khan said this while addressing a press conference that a police team on a tip off searched a bus moving towards Karachi from khayber Pukhtunkhwa, at Sohrab Goth. The police team arrested three suspects named Fayaz, Dost Muhammad and Shakeel Khan and recovered huge cache of weapon from their possession.
Police recovered 21 rifels, 19 SMGs, two 9mm pistols and for TT pistols with, one hand grenade and a grenade thrower. The police also discover thousands of bullets from them. The DIG told media men that the suspects revealed during interrogation about delivering of weapons. Banned organizations are the purchasers of the weapons and are the customers of the smugglers on regular basis.

The Dawoodi Bohra community mourned the killing of two Bohris who were shot dead in a gun attack at a sanitary shop on Risala Road. Ali Asghar, 45 and Mustafa Ali 35 were shot dead by two unidentified motorcyclists who escaped after the killings. The fueneral paryers of the deceased were offered at Dawoodi Jamaat Khana Saddar and the bodies were laid to rest at the community’s graveyard. The last rites of Ali and Mustafa were attended by thousands of people. Bohri Bazaar, Wadu Wah market and Burhani nagar observed shutter down strikes to register their mourning’s and protest over the killings. SSP Hyderabad Pir Farid Jan Sarhindi ordered deployment of additional troops, barbed wires and tents at the Bohri Bazar to facilitate the mourners. Cant police Station Senior House Officer (SHO) Abdul Razzaq had not registered an FIR against the two shooters nor were investigations launched to probe the reasons of the killings till Wednesday night. The death toll from Hyderabad targeted killings that touched the figure of a dozen here on Tuesday, prompted the authorities to come with a ban on pillion riding as part of security measures.
