Punjab Assembly on Wednesday witnessed vociferous scenes with both the treasury and opposition members hurling accusations and counter accusations against the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP).
PPP members, referring to the Asghar Khan case, demanded that those who had received kickbacks should be hanged. The PML-N parliamentarians in return blamed that the thieves, referring to PPP leadership, were making noise and raised slogans “Bibi ham sharminda hain- teray katil zinda hain”. The ruckus started when the PPP’s Deputy Parliamentary leader Shaukat Basra wanted to discuss the Asghar Khan case. Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal ruled that the house should be allowed to complete its official business. The opposition protested over the observations of the speaker and sloganeering ensued. Shaukat Basra said that real faces of Sharif brothers had been exposed before the masses in the Asghar Khan case. He said that the nation would not forgive those who received money from the ISI. He said the PML-N leadership should clarify its position in the House. He demanded that just like Yusuf Raza Gilani and Rehman Malik, the cases of Sharif brothers should also be referred to the Election Commission. He also called for action against General Aslam Beg and Lt General Hameed Gul. This infuriated the PML-N members and they raised slogans against President Asif Ali Zardari.
After failing to pacify the members from both sides, the speaker adjourned the house for half an hour. However, when the session started after the break, the hurling of accusations between both parties resumed. Provincial Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor Khan questioned about the killers of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed and who were indulging in corruption and plunder.
He said Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif had always served the country and the nation and not a single case of corruption had been proved against them.
