Well short of the sanctioned strength of 10,503 personnel, 2,046 posts in various ranks are lying vacant in the Rawalpindi police. Currently, the police were striving hard to maintain law and order situation with 8,457 police personnel, but the crime rate was continuously rising in the city. It should be mentioned here that recruitment of constables was announced twice this year but later the same was postponed due to unknown reasons.
Police sources said that specified police force could not be provided to police stations on the account of deployment of personnel on VVIP security, protocol, and guard duties.
A senior police official on the condition of anonymity said that a large portion of the police force was engaged in unnecessary duties, while adding that “Police are actually meant to provide security to the general public instead of a few VVIPs.”
