Ferrari will hand Formula 1 test debuts to Italian Formula 3 champion Riccardo Agostini and runner-up Eddie Cheever at Vallelunga on 9 November. The pair, locked in contention for the title until the final race of the season, will be joined by European Formula 3 champion Daniel Juncadella, as first revealed by AUTOSPORT last month. The trio will take control of the Ferrari F10 in which Fernando Alonso finished runner-up in the 2010 F1 World Championship. At 19-year-old, Cheever’s test comes 35 years after his father, also 19 at the time, first tested for the Scuderia back in 1977. While it was Gilles Villeneuve who ultimately claimed a full-time Ferrari seat, Cheever went on to make his debut in the Theodore TR1 at Argentina in 1978, the first of the 143 grands prix he entered. “Being in a Ferrari 35 years after my dad is an unforgettable emotion, let’s hope to go as fast as he did back then,” Cheever said. “This is a dream come true, and I hope that everything will go in the best possible way.” Agostini, who claimed five wins and 15 podiums en route to this year’s Italian F3 crown, added: “I am happy on running such an important test and I am preparing this event in the best possible way to get the most out of this occasion, not only as a fantastic prize but also to shine in a car that is the dream of every driver.”
