At least four people including a child were killed while five sustained severe injuries in separate incidents of violence here on Monday.
According to police sources some unknown criminals shot dead one man in the jurisdiction of the Jackson Police Station in Kimari.
On getting information, police reached the spot and shifted the dead body to Jinnah hospital for autopsy.
Later on, police identified the deceased as Rustum Khan (40), a resident of Kimari. In another incident, in the area of Liaquatabad three children were severely wounded in an incident of aerial firing at a wedding ceremony at Bandhane colony.
Later on, they were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical aid where 12 years old Nabeel succumbed to his injuries and died in a local hospital. The injured children, 10 years old Malik and 14 years old Arshad, were also admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, after the incident police arrested the six persons involved in the firing incident.
Meanwhile, a security guard named Muhammad Nawaz was gunned down outside a fast food restaurant situated in Defence Phase 6 when another guard opened fire on him. Later on, police arrested the security guard belonging to a private company and recovered the assault weapon from him.
Polices sources claimed that the incident happened due to personal enmity. In another incident, police found the dead body of a man in Nazimabad while one man sustained severe injuries when he tried to resist a robbery attempt.
Moreover, one more man sustained injuries in the Abbas Town area when he was targeted by unknown armed assailants while another man also sustained severe injuries in the Orangi Town area in a firing incident.
‘Over 35 prisoners
released on parole’: The Provincial Minister for Prisons, Manzoor Wasan has said that the number of prisoners released on parole is more than 35.
He gave this statement while addressing a press conference in his office here on Monday. He said that to monitor the movement of prisoners within jails, CCTV cameras would be installed and the prison staff would be imparted special training at the Benazir Bhutto Police Training Center, Razaqabad in this regard.
He said that assemblies would be dissolved in February and general elections would be held in the month of April next year. He said that any institution or agency would have no role in the upcoming polls. The next elections would be free, fair and impartial and on time, he added.
“I am not satisfied with the current law and order situation of Karachi, however, the government is taking measures to eliminate target killings and the situation would improve gradually”, Wasan said.
Police makes raids: Karachi police has been raiding different areas to arrest the 35 criminals who were released on parole during the military regime of General (Retd.) Pervez Musharraf.
According to the initial report of the police, most of these criminals had fled abroad after their release.
Previously, Sindh Prosecutor General, Shahadat Awan had summoned an important meeting to work out a strategy to arrest the criminals, sources said.
The assistance of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Interpol might be sought in this regard, the sources added. It merits mentioning here that these 35 criminals were arrested during the time-period from July to November 2003, for involvement in arson, murder and keeping unlicensed arms.
While hearing the Karachi-violence case, the Supreme Court (SC) inquired about these 35 criminals but it was revealed that they had been released.
On hearing this, the SC ordered for their immediate arrest.
IG directs action against vehicles with ‘AFR’ number plates
Inspector General of Sindh Police, Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari has directed the officials concerned to constitute theVigilance Committee of the Karachi Police at division level to initiate legal action against the vehicles with Applied For Registration (AFR) number plates.
The Sindh Police chief issued these directives while chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office here on Monday.
He said the Vigilance Committees would take legal action against those vehicles which were being driven on the roads with “AFR” number plates.
The vigilance bodies would also take action against unfit vehicles, he added.
The Sindh Police chief said that the local police and Anti-Car Lifting Cell should verify the documents of the vehicles with AFR number plates from the Excise and Taxation department while details of the owners would be also be verified from the NADRA.
Report about the progress in this regard would be compiled and furnished to the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) office on a daily basis, he said.
While chairing the meeting, he also reviewed in detail the matters related with the reorganization of the Police Investigation Branch.
He directed to constitute investigation teams in all three zones in the metropolis for effective investigation into the cases of murder and other crimes of severe nature.
The investigation bodies would be comprised of the local police investigation officials at investigation units level established in all three zones in the port city, Leghari said.
The officials of Crime Branch, CID, AVCC, ACLC, SIU and Forensic wings would be also included in the investigation teams, he stated.
He said the investigation teams would be responsible to reach the crime scene immediately to preserve and collect the evidences as well as to record the statements of the eye witnesses.
He said that the concerned station house officer (SHO) and assistant sub-inspector (ASI) should work in coordination after the registration of cases and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
He directed that the investigation process should be set according to modern trends and practices and detailed report regarding the progress should be submitted fortnightly by the officers concerned.
