The newly-appointed US ambassador to Pakistan, Richard Olson reaffirmed US commitment to working with Pakistan to achieve shared objectives including peace and stability in the region. While paying a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, he briefed the foreign minister on the upcoming working group meetings on economy and finance, energy, defence and water issues. He said the US praised Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. Khar welcomed the ambassador and underscored the importance of Pakistan’s relations with the US in terms of strategic partnership approaches. She expressed hope that during his tenure these would be further strengthened and the positive trajectory will be maintained. The foreign minister underlined the need to continue to focus on positive narratives in the relationship such as revival of the bilateral strategic dialogue process, infrastructure and development projects and strengthening of economic and commercial relations. She particularly outlined the important role of US assistance in the development of energy sector. The two sides also discussed the ongoing developments in the region.
