Wreck-It Ralph takes £30.7million in opening weekend – a record for a Walt Disney animation. Wreck-It Ralph set a new record for takings for a Disney cartoon film. Wreck-It Ralph, which is also a popular video game, took £30.7million ($49.1m) in its United States debut, toppling Disney’s previous record setter, 2010’s Tangled (£30.1m). The 3D computer-animated comedy film was directed by Rich Moore and scripted by Jennifer Lee and Phil Johnston. It features the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch. On Friday, it became one of 21 films up for the feature animation Oscar on the day it opened in nearly 4,000 cinemas throughout north America. The New York Times gave the film 5/5 stars, saying: “The movie invites a measure of cynicism – which it proceeds to obliterate with a 93-minute blast of color, noise, ingenuity and fun.”
