Former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said that all institutions should work within their domains, as it was the right way to maintain the trichotomy of power defined by the Constitution.
Talking to journalists after inaugurating the completion of renovation work of the Lahore Press Club on Friday, he said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believed in the restoration of institutions and also respected them. He paid tribute to journalists for always raising their voice against dictators, adding that journalists had played a vital role in strengthening democracy.
He said that PPP had restored the 1973 Constitution in its real form and that was a great achievement.
Gilani said that PPP had always followed the Constitution and wanted others to do so.
The PPP leader said that he had appeared before the Supreme Court thrice and dispelled the false image that PPP did not follow the Constitution.
He said that some forces did not want the creation of the South Punjab province, adding that it was the duty of the government to fulfil the aspirations of the people of South Punjab. He said that the government would fulfil its commitment of forming the South Punjab province within the limits of the Constitution. Gilani said that the president had immunity under the Constitution and he had protected the Constitution by not writing a letter.
