A banned organisation is involved in extorting money from several businessmen in the provincial capital, sources told Pakistan Today on Friday.
The sources said that the banned organisation had recently demanded Rs 10 million from a leading transport company operating from Lahore, adding that the company was threatened with bomb attacks on their terminals in case of non-payment.
The transport company has been receiving calls from two Bannu numbers — 0928313243 and 0928310113 — and is being asked to hand over the money in Afghanistan.
Sources said that the police had begun investigations into the killings of four people who had refused to give money to the banned organisation.
Meanwhile, intelligence agencies have warned of terrorist attacks on prominent political leaders in Punjab. According to intelligence reports, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Punjab chapter was planning to target key politicians belonging to different political parties.
The secret agencies through a communiqué to provincial authorities concerned have warned that the TTP’s Matiur Rehman group has planned massive terror bids in Punjab. It has been revealed that Waqas, a member of a banned organisation imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail, was coordinating the alleged terrorist attacks from within the jail premises.
The communiqué also said that the terrorists may target police officials in an attempt to secure the release of their colleagues arrested for involvement in the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team a couple of years ago. They may also kidnap traders and foreigners for the purpose, it added.
