Stage set for SCBA annual election

The stage has been set for holding Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) annual elections today (Wednesday). Former secretary SCBA Muhammad Amin Javed said that a total of 2592 voters would exercise their right to vote for electing the new body of Supreme Court Bar Association.
Ahmad Awais, Mian Israr and Barrister Zafar Ullah Khan are in the run for top slot while Raja Javed Afzal and Suhail Dar are running for the post of secretary. Rana Naeem and Tahir Chaudhry are contesting for the vice president slot.
Executive body will also be elected simultaneously. The polling will be held at Peshawar, Abbottabad, Quetta, Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Multan, Bahwalpur and
Rawalpindi-Islamababad.
The arrangements for holding elections in a fair, free and transparent manner have been finalised across the country.

‘Govt should implement Asghar Khan case verdict’

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Yasin Azad on Tuesday said that the government should implement Asghar Khan case verdict given by apex court for strengthening democracy and constitution in the country. Talking to the media, he said that strict action against those persons who hatched conspiracy against democracy should be taken and Asghar Khan case verdict should be implemented by fully. He said that conflict between judiciary and the government over issue of writing the letter to Swiss authority has been resolved. SCBA president demanded that more judges in Lahore High Court (LHC) should be appointed immediately for quick provision of justice to the people. Yasin Azad said that being SCBA president, he always played a role for strengthening democracy and supremacy of constitution and he never supported to any one party, adding that there is no threat to state institutions and democracy in the country if all institution including judiciary worked within its limits.
