Flyover could not be constructed despite president’s orders: A longstanding public demand for the construction of a flyover bridge over Imamia Colony Railway lever crossing on GT Road could not be fulfilled despite the orders of President Asif Ali Zardari. The president had approved and ordered the construction of five-kilometers-long flyover from Shahdara Morre to Ferozwala Police Station, but the provincial government had not constructed it so far. Due to the over-crowded transports on GT Road, the local route vehicles were completing the area of 27km between Muridke and Lahore in one and a half hour while this passage was supposed to be covered in only 20 to 30 minutes. The then Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer, during his visit to Kot Abdul Malik, announced to remove the toll tax, but it was also not removed.
The flyover bridge over the railway level crossing was a genuine public demand which could not be met since the inception of Pakistan. Time for travelling between Muridke and Lahore had been enhanced from 20 to 90 minutes due to the increasing number of vehicles.
