Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1982 film, Bemisal was a classic. The film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rakhee and Vinod Mehra in the leads told a story of loyalty, sacrifice and revenge. Bemisal is still remembered for the strong performances by its cast and RD Burman’s music. Now, 30 years later, there are rumours that a remake might be in the offing. According to a source, “Karan Johar wants to remake Bemisal. We’re not sure whether or not he will direct the movie himself, but he has been thinking about remaking it at some point.” Karan, it seems, might even have a leading lady in mind. The source reveals, “Karan has been thinking about casting Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play Rakhee’s character from the original. In fact, he is in talks with Aishwarya. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked for a watch brand. She has been away from films for a while (she last acted in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, 2010), and we haven’t heard of a conformation yet from her end. But if all goes well, we will hopefully see her return to the big screen with this.” If Aishwarya does agree to do the film, this will be her first movie with Karan Johar. The film will also see her acting for the first time in a remake of a film that starred her father-in-law.
