The Inquiry Commission on Abbottabad Operation on Tuesday refuted British media reports that the commission had cleared the Pakistan government and the military establishment of involvement in protection of the al Qaeda chief, saying no report had yet been presented to the government and all assertions regarding the contents of the report were concocted. Quoting a senior government official, the Daily Telegraph had said that “no one else in the town knew the world’s most wanted man had taken up residence there”.
It cleared the Pakistan government and military establishment of involvement, a verdict that would prompt accusations of a cover-up and infuriate Western diplomats. According to a press release issued on Tuesday, the commission said all the news regarding submission of report to the government, its contents and recommendations were “concocted, baseless and without substance” as the report was yet to be presented. The commission therefore, clarified its position that no such report was revealed to the press, the statement said.
