Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench judge, Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh has directed the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) chief executive officer (CEO) to clean Dhoke Syedan ground from debris and garbage within three days. The LHC bench was hearing a petition of Anwar Dar, president of a local NGO, who had challenged the sale and construction of the land in Dhoke Syedan ground in violation of the stay orders of a LHC bench in April 2009.
The petitioner had brought to the court’s notice that the ground had become a dumping point for garbage which created unhygienic conditions for the residents of the area.
The LHC bench also directed the respondent, the Punjab government, to submit its reply regarding the status of the land. The advocate for the petitioner argued that despite the stay order issued by the court, the ground had been filled up with debris and garbage right in the middle of a thickly populated area. The RCB CEO and the military estate officer were responsible for the situation, he argued.
The court expressed displeasure over the violation of the stay orders and directed the RCB CEO to clean the ground within three days.
